Winter Skin Prep
The weather outside may be unsightly, but your skin doesn’t have to be. Banish dry skin and give your winter skin care regimen a boost with these steps to protect your skin during the colder months.
1. Seek a Skincare Specialist
A specialist, such as an esthetician or dermatologist, can analyze your skin type, troubleshoot your current skin care regimen, and give you advice on the skin care products you should be using for the different seasons. 2. Lose the lotions and change to creams
You may have found a moisturizer that works just fine in spring and summer, but it won’t have the same benefits during the winter months. Just as you switch up the wardrobe for the change of season, it’s a good idea to do the same with your skin emollient. Use creams, which are typically more moisturizing, instead of lotions, which don’t provide as strong an oily barrier to reduce water loss in the skin.
Try a lotion containing “humectants,” a class of substances (including glycerine, sorbitol, and alpha-hydroxy acids) that attract moisture to your skin, like Rhonda Allison’s Elite Eegf with a peptide ingredient that mimics the human body’s own mechanism to produce collagen via TGF-b. Or, try Rhonda Allison’s Drop of Essence Hydration Drops, a light serum that provides valuable hydration and tissue support to slow down aging skin.
3. Lubricate the lips
Chapped lips are a sure sign of winter. You bundle your body in extra layers during the winter months, but your lips are still exposed to the sun, wind, cold, and dry air. Keep your lips in shape and protected with a shield of balm. Try Hempz Lips Ultra Moisturizing Herbal Lip Balm with SPF or RA for Men Lip Guard.
4. Keep your mits moisturized
It’s hard to keep your hands moist, especially in cold, dry weather. Lack of moisture can lead to itchiness and cracking. Wear gloves whenever outside and have a plan to treat and repair dry, cracked hands. One of our favs is CND Almond Soothing Creme.
5. Take shorter showers
Ironically, the idea of hot showers or baths to warm you up on a cold day, can leave our skin crying out for moisture over the longer-term. Opt for shorter, more lukewarm baths and showers and pat your skin dry afterward, following up quickly with a layer of moisturizer from head to toe. If you are looking for the perfect total body cream that will be rich but quickly absorbed, nourishing but light to make your skin feel silky soft and beautifully touchable and gorgeously fragrant, your search is now officially over with Mama Mio Omega Super-rich Body Cream.
